With an eye on Black Friday, demand for electronics and household appliances on the Internet grew in October

A survey by startup Simplex also shows an increase in consumer interest in the Peruvian maca supplement

São Paulo, November 2024. Smartphone, TV Box, washer-dryer, air conditioning and air conditioner. These are some of the most sought-after items in large electronic retailers in the month leading up to Black Friday 2024, which will take place on November 29. This is what the October edition of Radar Simplex, a survey by the Franco-Brazilian startup Simplex, which monitors searches made by consumers in the country's largest e-commerces and captures trends through an artificial intelligence platform, points out.

"Seasonally in October, searches already point to purchase intentions. The household appliances and electronics sectors traditionally continue to concentrate the largest volume of searches relating to the date," says João Lee, CEO of the startup.

At the top of the ranking of the 10 most searched terms, the Samsung A54 smartphone grew by 857.5% compared to September. For the Simplex executive, the search for an intermediate device model reflects a consumer concerned about saving money and looking for more affordable alternatives.

Xiaomi on the rise

The Xiaomi brand, meanwhile, appears on the October Radar with an increase of 278.6% compared to the previous month. "The interesting thing in this case is to see how the Chinese brand has been winning over Brazilians, remembering that it includes not only smartphones but also watches, electronics and even household appliances," says João.

The Chinese giant's popularity is corroborated by its annual growth. According to Simplex data, when compared to the same period last year, the growth is also significant: an increase of 123.7% in searches for the brand's products.

TV Box (+436.1%), air conditioning (+252.1%), hair dryer (+231.3%) and washer and dryer (+227%) also stand out in Black Friday-related purchase intentions.

Peruvian Maca is the supplement of the moment

But the market is not all about Black Friday. The superfood Peruvian maca, a plant whose root has been increasingly consumed in supplement form, saw a jump of 684.1% compared to September. Year-on-year, the rise in demand is even more impressive: an increase of 15,057.2%.

The growing popularity of the supplement is due to its benefits linked to improved physical endurance, vitality and libido, among other factors. "It's an interest that has been intensifying and expresses the Brazilian interest in food supplements. Perhaps 2023 was the year of creatine, as we've seen in past editions of Radar, but Peruvian maca is emerging in 2024," observes Simplex's CEO.

Increased searches for health and well-being: candidiasis is the most searched term on the web in September

According to a survey by startup Simplex, Brazilians have already revealed their buying intentions for Black Friday

São Paulo, October 2024.

The episode of intimate "itching" that affected a participant in the reality TV show "The Farm" recently caused the term "candidiasis" to skyrocket on the web. There was an increase of 1756.5 % in September compared to August. This is according to Radar Simplex, a survey by the Franco-Brazilian startup Simplex, which monitors the searches made by consumers in the country's largest e-commerces and captures trends through an artificial intelligence platform.

"The enormous popularity of reality shows always has the potential to impact on Brazilians' daily lives. The episode reflected people's greater concern about intimate health, and also opened up the possibility of a more open dialog about this type of topic, which is often perceived as taboo. And as we monitor large e-commerces, it's possible that the search for the term led consumers to pages of companies that sell medicines linked to infection," explained Simplex's CEO, João Lee.

Keeping an eye on Black Friday

Other items that stood out in searches may already point to possible shopping intentions for Black Friday in traditional categories, such as electronics, household appliances and fashion, said João. Demand for "sneakers" and "blazer" increased by 824.3% and 363.6%, respectively, compared to August.

In the electronics category, the PS5 Slim grew 404% compared to the previous month. "There's the Black Friday factor but, especially in relation to this item, we also had the pre-sale of the PS5 Slim 30th Anniversary Edition, which sold out quickly. Purchase intentions don't always turn into sales. But in this case, the impact on the market was concrete," says the executive.

Household appliances such as fridges and vacuum cleaners rose 330.2% and 196% respectively during the period.

Another surprise was the growth in searches for electric bikes, which jumped by 275%, possibly driven by Caloi's announcement in September of the first national models with Bosch motors, which should arrive in Brazil during the first half of 2025.

End-of-year celebrations on the radar

Maragogi saw an increase of 442.7% compared to August. In the January Simplex Radar, the city had already appeared as one of the most searched terms by revelers preparing for Carnival, with an increase of 313% compared to December 2023.

"As the second half of 2024 gets underway, demand for travel packages and destinations is starting to appear, especially because of the end-of-year celebrations and Black Friday," says João.

The Simplex survey corroborates the research carried out by Decolar.com, which named Maragogi, along with Maceió, as one of the 20 most popular Brazilian destinations for travel in 2024.

Sports fans mobilized searches for illegal streams during the Olympics, according to Radar Simplex

São Paulo, September 2024. The Paris Olympics, which began at the end of July and ran into the first half of August, have captured the attention of Brazilians and recorded high viewing figures. On free-to-air television alone, Globo claims to have reached more than 81% of Brazilian homes with the Olympic broadcasts. But for keen viewers who didn't want to miss a single second of the year's major Olympic event, the only way out was to turn to the wide variety of multichannels, known as "illegal streams". This is what the August Simplex Radar points out, a survey created by the Franco-Brazilian startup Simplex, which monitors the searches made by consumers in the country's largest e-commerces and captures trends through an artificial intelligence platform. The term "multichannel" had an impressive increase of 119,900% compared to July.

"However, keen viewers who didn't want to miss a second of the big Olympic event of the year turned to Illegal multichannels, these streams accessed via the internet replicate the television signals of practically any broadcaster in the world that holds the rights to broadcast the games", said João Lee, CEO of Simplex.

The term "Amazon Prime" also grew by 183.2% compared to the previous month. For the startup's executive, the wave of interest in sports may justify the growth, since an agreement was announced between Amazon and DAZN, an exclusive sports platform, to make the NFL available through a special subscription scheme.

Electric shower, Iphones and live-action Stitch on the rise

August's cold fronts also boosted demand for Lorenzetti showers, which rose 700.9% compared to July, taking second place in the August Simplex Radar.

Black Friday is already starting to mobilize price research for items I want, such as the Iphone models 13 and 14, with increases of 325.8% and 233.9%, respectively.

The teaser for the live-action remake of Lilo & Stitch, in turn, caused searches for the term "Stitch" to increase by 245.7%.

According to the survey, Brazilians are also already planning for Black Friday 2024

São Paulo, August 2024.

Amazon Prime Day, Amazon's annual promotion, which took place between July 16 and 21, drove Internet searches, but anyone who thinks that the most sought-after item was any of the brand's products is mistaken. In July, the biggest search was for 'manga'(comic books of Japanese origin), according to the July Simplex Radar, a survey created by the startup Simplex, which monitors searches carried out by consumers in the country's e-commerces. The demand for manga grew by 5892% compared to June, while for kindles - which occupies second place in the ranking - grew by 704%.. The the search for the virtual assistant Alexa grew by 654% ..

Black Friday on Brazilians' radar

Following this logic, many consumers have already started researching when this year's Black Friday will fall. "Black Friday date" appeared in second place in the ranking with an increase of 5,033% compared to the previous month. "Those who didn't want to spend money now are planning to take advantage of the next big promotion. There is also a whole movement on the part of the main retailers in relation to the date, which traditionally begins in mid-July, early August," adds Lee.

The electronic game Subway Surfers, air conditioning, a cat, an iPhone 12, a chest of drawers and a Hyundai HB20 car complete the Simplex Radar.. According to a survey by startup Simplex, the pantaloons trend and items for the home also piqued the interest of Brazilians during the month

São Paulo, July 2024.

July is the month of mid-year vacations and, last month, consumers heated up their search for airline tickets in e-commerce even more, as was to be expected. This is indicated by the Simplex Radar, a survey created by the Franco-Brazilian startup Simplex, which monitors searches made by consumers in the country's largest e-commerces and captures trends through an artificial intelligence platform. At the top of the ranking of the ten most searched terms by consumers in June, the search for "plane tickets" rose by 360% compared to May. In April, it was also up 74.6% on March.

"We can see that the search for good prices and promotions was already happening some time beforehand. The trend now is for the search to skyrocket," says João Lee, CEO of Simplex.

In second place, pantaloons grew 239% in June compared to the previous month. According to João, this is a classic item that always features in searches and may become a more frequent option with the arrival of low temperatures.

Home renovation items and smartphones on the rise

The June edition of the survey also featured a variety of products for those setting up or renovating their homes, such as a TV panel (up 156%), a dressing table (up 152%), a double box bed (up 134%) and a table with 4 chairs (up 127%). "It may be a reflection of Valentine's Day, thinking of couples who live together or are building their homes," he observes.

In the electronics category, the Iphone 14 Pro Max and Samsung 23 smartphones rose by 147% and 132% respectively compared to May. Lee points out that, with the arrival of the latest formats - the S24 and Iphone 15 - previous models have fallen in price, offering better value for money for consumers. "We've seen this in past editions and consumers tend to take advantage of these launches to upgrade their devices, even if it's not to the newest model."

According to a survey by startup Simplex, the long-awaited new version of the PlayStation 5 and the Barbie doll also aroused consumer interest in May

São Paulo, June 2024.

After a start to the year marked by heat waves, the drop in temperature that has prevailed in the Southeast and South of the country since May has already stirred up electronic retailers. Consumers are already on the lookout for items to protect themselves against the cold, according to Radar Simplex, a survey created by the Franco-Brazilian startup Simplex, which monitors searches made by consumers in the country's e-commerces and captures trends through an artificial intelligence platform. At the top of the ranking of the ten most searched terms by consumers, Lorenzetti shower had an increase of 728% compared to April.

"In past editions of Radar, we've seen a very strong recurrence of demand for air-conditioning, which still appears, reflecting the intense heat waves. But as winter approaches, new items are starting to appear on the list," says João Lee, CEO of Simplex.

Another related item was "warm blanket that looks like a comforter", with growth of 20.3% compared to the previous month. According to João, the demand for items with longer specifications (with more than one or two words) is a strong indication that such a product had a high purchase intention.

"Radar generally returns more generic terms, because the consumer is usually still at the research stage. When they get to the bottom of the sales funnel (i.e. buying), it's much more common to see what we call 'long tails', more specific searches. In this case, the comforter is usually a more expensive product. The search for something similar, but which fulfills the same function, shows that Brazilians are looking to save money," he says.

Rumors about the new PS5 and the "Barbie effect"

In second place on the list, PlayStation 5 appears with an evolution of 79% compared to April, probably driven by rumours of a possible launch, still in May, of the updated version of the PS5, the PS 5 PRO - a certification given by Sony to games that have been optimized to make the most of the hardware of this new cross-generational version -, which did not materialize.

The Barbie doll had a 55.8% jump in May. "Since the movie came out, the doll has undeniably had a new boom. Since then, it has appeared in the ranking quite frequently, moving away from more traditional dates such as Children's Day. It's becoming a collector's item," observes Lee.

Other items that saw an increase were 4-burner stoves, speakers and monitors. "It could be a reflection of Mother's Day - and of those who left it too late to buy presents - or it could be that consumers are already anticipating Valentine's Day," explains the CEO.

See below for a complete ranking of the ten items that most aroused Brazilian interest in the country's major e-commerce stores in May and their respective growth compared to April:

São Paulo, April 2024.

Consumer Week, which took place from March 11 to 18, was notable for the variety of searches Brazilians made on the web. Traditional products, such as electronics, moved the online retail trade, but less common items such as vibrators, bicycles and air humidifiers also appeared on the wish list. This is what the March Simplex Radar points out, a survey created by the Franco-Brazilian startup Simplex, which monitors the searches made by consumers in the country's largest e-commerces and captures trends through an artificial intelligence platform. artificial intelligence platform.

According to the startup, an analysis on Google Trends shows that interest in Consumer Week has doubled in the last five years. With an eye on the economy and worried about the delay in Shopee deliveries, Brazilian consumers are already looking for Mother's Day gifts

Survey by startup Simplex also highlights greater demand for Xiaomi smartphones

São Paulo, March 2024.

Brazilian consumers have been searching for Mother's Day gifts since February. This is according to Radar Simplex, a survey created by the Franco-Brazilian startup Simplex, which monitors the searches made by consumers in the country's largest e-commerces and captures trends through an artificial intelligence platform. At the top of the ten most searched terms on the Internet, the commemorative date, set for May 12, saw an increase of 6,797% compared to January. According to the Simplex study, the traffic comes exclusively from the Shopee website, which may explain why there was so much anticipation, according to the startup's CEO, João Lee. For the specialist, consumers are not only looking for cheaper imported products, but are also anticipating the longer delivery times characteristic of Chinese platforms.

Currently, the average delivery time for international orders from Shopee is between 30 and 50 calendar days, according to the site itself. "Delayed delivery of orders is a recurring complaint of those who buy from this type of retailer. Brazilians show that they are taking precautions against possible inconveniences and, of course, are concerned about securing good prices," explains the Simplex executive.

It is worth remembering thataccording to data from the WCI (World Container Index)the conflict in the Red Sea, resulting from attacks by Yemen's Houthi rebels, is already having an impact on freight prices and deadlines for those importing Chinese products.

China also in second place

In second place on the Simplex Radar for February, demand for Xiaomi smartphones increased by 1,138% compared to January. "Possibly a reflection of the brand's new launch, the Xiaomi 14 Pro," says João.

In a summer of high temperatures, items such as electric showers (+682%), swimming pools (+461%) and air conditioning (+375%) also showed an increase compared to the previous month.

Survey also highlights greater demand for water purifiers and Brazilian revelers' purchasing intentions for Carnival

São Paulo, February 2024.

The frequent heatwaves that have plagued the country since the last months of 2023 and which promise to intensify during Carnival boosted Brazilian searches for air conditioning models in January. This is according to the first edition of 2024 of Radar Simplex, a survey created by the Franco-Brazilian startup Simplex, which monitors searches made by consumers in the country's largest e-commerces and captures trends through an artificial intelligence platform. Demand for the Inverter model rose by 878% compared to December 2023, leading the ranking of the ten most searched terms. The portable model of the appliance, in turn, grew by 334% compared to December last year.

"Summer is a time when we naturally see this increase in interest. Both the portable model and the Inverter are linked to a consumer looking for savings, who wants to cool off while spending less," says João Lee, CEO of Simplex, which specializes in increasing traffic, conversion and online sales.

In second place on the January Radar, water purifiers jumped 485% compared to December. For the executive, the evolution may be related to the most recent outbreak of gastroenteritis in Rio de Janeiro.

Carnival preparations

In addition to electronics and household appliances, such as smartphones, electric pressure cookers and brush dryers, January's ranking also includes terms such as thermoses (+233%) and Maragogi (313%), probably signaling the purchase intentions and destinations of Brazilian revelers who spent January preparing for Carnival.

"Stanley glasses are all the rage, but as they are more expensive models, many people end up looking for cheaper thermoses to keep their drinks cold during this high-temperature Carnival," says João.

In the annual comparison, the Simplex Radar also points out that Maragogi had an impressive increase of 2352%.
