In the month of Christmas, electronics, household appliances and Baby Alive dolls were some of the items on Brazilians' wish lists. This is what the December edition of Radar Simplex, a survey by the Franco-Brazilian startup Simplex, which monitors searches made by consumers in the country's largest e-commerces and captures trends through an artificial intelligence platform, points out. At the top of the ranking of the 15 most searched terms, Baby Alive, a doll that offers children the chance to look after a baby that looks like the real thing, grew by 789.1% compared to November.
Samsung's PlayStation 5 Slim, S23 Ultra smartphones, manga and various iPhone models also topped the Simplex Radar, with increases of 545.9%, 322.9%, 311.2% and 236.5% respectively.
In second place, with an increase of 724.1%, searches for external hard drives soared. "This is not an item that usually appears in the ranking at this time of year. So, possibly, it's the result of some big promotion announced by retailers, or it could still be the aftermath of Black Friday, with Cyber Monday, which took place at the beginning of December," explains João Lee, CEO of Simplex.
The season for lots of trips, the search for "cheap airline tickets" featured in the survey, with an increase of 70.8%. Water filters, cameras, portable air conditioners, minibars, the Chromecast streaming solution, men's sneakers and whisky also appear on the list.
Shrouded in controversy, the so-called "gel gun" completes the ranking, with an increase of 55.9% compared to November. In the annual comparison, the increase is even more impressive: a jump of 1900.8%.
